Various Ontario maps
for planning your trip
When I plan a trip I scour over maps to find out exactly where I want to go and the best way to get there. This is even more critical when planning a trip to Ontario as the province is simply immense and distances between cities and places can be quite large.
By using the various resources on this page and on individual pages throughout my site you should have all the information you will ever need to make sure your trip runs smoothly and without issue.
Where is Ontario?
Ontario is located in east-central Canada and is bordered by the James Bay, Hudson Bay, Lake Superior, Lake Ontario, the United States to the south, Quebec to the east, and Manitoba to the west.
As you can see from the general outline map of Ontario below the province is HUGE. If you only have a few days or a week at most to travel you will most likely be visiting either Southern Ontario or Northern Ontario.
Just to let you know, a drive from Toronto in Central Ontario to Thunder Bay in Northern Ontario is a 20 hour journey with no stops other than bathroom breaks and to fill up with gas. Not something you probably want to do if spending such a short time in the province.
Below is a Google Map of Ontario that allows you to zoom in more closely to see the main highways that connect the various cities and towns of the Province. It should provide a good reference when planning your trip and help you determine what mode of transportation is required to help you to get from point A to point B.

For an even more in-depth outline of main and secondary highways I have included a link to Ontario’s official government office in charge of highways and roads: The Ministry of Transportation in Ontario or MTO. The MTO website at: www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/map/ is very easy to use and provides information for each town, city or area of the province. Simply navigate alphabetically to the area you wish to visit, click the link and you will be taken to a very detailed map of the area.
By utilizing these various maps of Ontario you should have all the resources you need to efficiently plan your trip.
Good luck and see why our official provincial slogan is: Ontario: Yours to Discover!!
